Sanchez Art Center, a Citizen Joy partner, invites all California artists age 18 and over to submit their work for a juried, in-gallery exhibition of art that celebrates democracy, by exploring these three themes and questions:
- Gratitude:What does your government do to bring you joy?
- Agency: What choices are you able to make that are dear to your heart?
- Harmony: When do you feel in harmony with your fellow citizens?
Interested artists in all fine art disciplines will be able to submit work for Citizen Joy: a Celebration of Democracy via CallForEntry.org beginning on July 27 and through October 15. Artists are encouraged to post on social media about their work and their creative process using #citizenjoy and #citizen joyful.
Citizen Joy is a national coalition of artists, arts organizations, and educators from all disciplines using art to cut through the doom and gloom about politics and energize people to do what they can to protect democratic rights and freedoms.
The mission of Sanchez Art Center is to create community through art. Sanchez Art Center offers a comfortable and welcoming place for the community to come together, engage and be enriched by the arts. Established in 1996 when artists and community members converted an old school into a multi-use complex, today the Pacifica Center for the Arts campus includes 3 galleries, studio space for over 30 visual artists, the Mary Harris Arts Education Room, and the Mildred Owen Concert Hall. Sanchez Art Center, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, provides free exhibitions and talks by emerging and established west coast artists, education and engagement designed to make art accessible to people of all ages and backgrounds, and affordable art studios for San Francisco Bay Area artists.
