How to Get Involved in Elections

➡️Choose your candidate/campaign: you can focus on the presidential election, senate races, house races (your own or a nearby district that’s more contested), or local races.

➡️You can sometimes have more impact by choosing a local race.  For example, county District Attorneys and Sheriffs are key players in criminal justice issues and those races are often ignored.

➡️Connect to national organizations who have done the research for you: Activate America focuses on senate and house seats in key states; Sister District works on state legislatures and governor’s races in key swing states; Vote Save America targets key races in a fun competition between “team west” and “team east.”

Choose from the following ways to make a difference:

🌟Canvassing: go door-to-door to talk to potential voters.  This is one of the most effective ways to reach voters.  Sign up for shifts through a campaign or organizing group.  Go with friends and it’s exercise, socializing, and making a positive impact!

🌟Phone or Text Banking: Get an easy script to help you call or text voters.  Usually done by signing up for a shift with a campaign or organizing group, with a short training at the top of the shift.  Don’t worry, your own phone number doesn’t show to the people you contact.

🌟Postcards: Sign up to get addresses and a script to send cards to voters.

🌟Give or raise money: this is one of the best ways to help. Give directly to your chosen candidate or use Act Blue to find democratic causes. Hold a house party and get your friends to give! You can look into resources like Flip the Vote to figure out where to give for most impact.
